Size: 18.5 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens brownish above, whitish or margaritaceous below. First dorsal dorsal black. Pectorals and caudal dusky, the lower border of both fins creamy white. Second dorsal dusky. anal and ventrals whitish.

Height 3.9, 4.8-4.9 in length with caudal. Head 2.6-2.7, 3.3-3.4 in length with caudal. Breadth of head 1.2-1.3 in its length. Eye 5-6.5, 1.2-1.6 in snout and 1-1.2 in scarcely concave inter orbital space.Bony plates of head and opercular bones finely rugose. Preorbital with a spine anteriorly. Preopercle with 4 spine along its lower edge, subopercle with one spine. Suprascapular bony plate posteriorly with a short interior and a longer exterior spine. Humeral spine directed obliquely upwards and backwards, almost twice diameter of eye or somewhat shorter. Lower lip with a row of fleshy tentacles. A few rows of rather strong teeth in the jaws, the posterior ones near symphysis somewhat longer. Vomerine teeth in two patches, teeth on anterior part of palatines stronger than those of vomer. Longest spine of first dorsal about equal to inter orbital space. Third ray of second dorsal longest, equal to distance between hind border of eye and base of suprascapular spines. Rays rapidly decreasing in length posteriorly, the last ray equal to eye or slightly shorter. Origin of anal slightly before that of second dorsal, its end slightly behind that of second dorsal. Posterior anal rays slightly longer than anterior ones, much shorter than longest rays of dorsal. Pectorals equal to head without snout or somewhat shorter. Ventrals twice in head. Pelvic spines below or behind antero-inferior edge of maxillary. Caudal slightly rounded.
